Resolved my issue. Clear instructions. Easy to follow. No jargon. Click Advanced , and then scroll down to General. Click the link that you want to disconnect, and then click Break Link. Click Open or Open Link , depending on whether the object is embedded or linked, and then make the changes that you want.

If the object is embedded, the changes are only in the copy that is in the document. If the object is linked, the changes are made to the source file.
